I love all of Andrew Loomis's instructional books. I was so excited about this previously unpublished work of Loomis. This book, however is a unfinished manuscript. The drawings are rough and the instruction level, is aimed at the beginner only. Some of the miscellaneous unpublished drawings are ok, but not enough of them. Better to buy the reprints of his more well known books.

Not really a finished book.

The books by Andrew Loomis are always an asset for those who draw. This new one, lost for so many years, it's worth the value. His sketches of women are unsurpassed!

Great book.

Buy any of the other Loomis books, this is unfinished and derivative.

I'm really dissapointed with this book, It's a unfinished book by Andrew Loomis nothing compared to the previous books. I don't recomend it, I feel like It was a waste of time and money.

All of Loomis books on drawing are great books, and probably the best to have on your shelf, if you had to pick.

For the most part, the book was okay. Some of the recipes were good, but someone seriously needs to edit this book. Typos, poor grammar, and illogically constructed sentences abound (annoying in something I am paying for, but not enough for me to hate the book). What is not forgivable, however, are recipes that are incomplete. One of the recipes I was most interested in, Seared Duck Breast with Cranberry Mustard Sauce, completely neglects to tell you how to make the Cranberry Mustard Sauce! (it says "see below", but then there is nothing below).Pictures are supposed to be helpful in a cookbook - but the pictures here are random "artistic" still lifes. A tiny fraction of recipes are illustrated, and the ones that are may be several pages in either direction from the actual recipe (and not labelled, of course).This book is also definitely geared towards a Californian cook. Many ingredients she mentions are only available on the Pacific coast - the recipe has to be adapted or disregarded for an East Coast cook. There is also an incessant and grating moralizing, as only a Californian Hippie can do: Use organic raisins! A carrot "hot dog" (no, not a hot dog flavored with carrot - literally a steamed carrot on a bun)! And my favorite refrain, repeated over and over (and a full page sermonette devoted to it) - use only eggs from free range pastured chickens, because they may taste a little bit better, but you'll feel good as you fork over an exorbitant amount to pay for these eggs!Finally, in a cookbook from an award winning writer, I would expect recipes of substance. Many of the recipes are good, but many of them are ridiculous. Hot Dogs with Mustard? (you open the roll, put the hot dog on a bun, and then serve it with your mustard of choice - yes, that is a recipe in the book). Parts of the book were good and informative, but the rest of the book just isn't good enough to recommend it.

This book would look wonderful on a coffee table -- I can't stop staring at the image on the front cover that seems so real that it wants to pop off of the page!But it's more than that.It begins with a brief but intriguing history of mustard's use as one of the "world's most beloved condiments." Then come recipes showing the many different uses and tastes that can be achieved with mustard, so the reader gets a full perspective of all that mustard has to offer (which is much more than I would have guessed!) The result is an enjoyable (and delicious!) course that will leave you really knowing how to use mustard.But the best part is the photography. These pictures have so much depth and character. From fields of yellow mustard plants to the detail of mustard seeds to fresh vegetables to be used in a recipe with mustard, I'd be seriously tempted to buy this book just for the pictures even if I didn't want the recipes and history!

This book isn't what I thought it was. I THOUGHT it was a book of recipes for home-made mustard; but, it's actually recipes for dishes that USE mustard as an ingredient.Yes, there are a few recipes for mustard, and one of them is excellent. I would buy it again for that recipe but wish there were more like it.

I bought this for my food blog reference library, and I'm glad I did. Some standards and classics, and a lot of pretty cool derivatives. If you love mustard, and want to expand your DIY repertoire, this ones for you.

I have scores of cookbooks...I find this one really interesting & have used some of their suggestions & have been suprised & enjoyed the differences it makes in taste! It's a keeper!

We've tried a few of the recipies in the book and they are great. Neat history of mustard section, though I would have preferred a little more in the way of recipes, over such an extensive history section.

This book was given to me by a friend and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading through it. I LOVE mustard and use it in cooking, all the time. I think it's one of the most underutilized culinary treasures that we have. ;-)Included in this book is an overview of the many types of mustard plants and prepared types of mustard that are available, history, medicinal uses and several recipes. Nicely presented too.I'm taking off one star as I would have loved to see more vegetarian recipes in this collection. I also would have liked to read a bit more about the medicinal uses of mustard, past and present. I love this book. It is has great info on everything I want my teen to know and some I hadn't thought of. The topics don't drag on, they are specific and concise. Loved the resources for teens at the end. Highly recommend this book

Jane Fonda is someone that has done her homework on teens. I bought this book for my daughter to help understanding my Grandaughter who is 12 years old. I read it first and now I can intelligently discuss our mutual teenager.

This is a hit with the teenager that I bought it for. Her friends are reading it and passing it along. She said she love the book.

I recently bought this book for my niece's 13th birthday. I did tell her mom about the book and was given the okay to have it sent to her before I ordered it. Not sure my niece's mom understood this would be a book for my niece's eyes only -- even though I tried to make that very clear.This is definitely a book filled with things I would not feel comfortable talking to my parents about if I were 13 years old! With that said, that is really the whole point of the book -- so that teens have a reliable resource to use instead of getting advice/comments from other teens and/or using the Internet -- both of which often result in a lot of misinformation.I actually remember Jane Fonda being on an episode of The Doctors talking about this book. The Doctors seemed to think it is/was a much needed book for teens. As many people say -- knowledge is power. This book arms teens with a lot of very helpful knowledge and it is not done in such a way as to promote or encourage them to try some of these things.Unfortunately, I will not be purchasing this again for another 13 year old niece. Buying the recent copy did not go over too well and I do not want a repeat of history! Every family is different and some moms may not welcome something like this. So be careful!The book is very informative and I honestly think Jane did a great job for the most part. I even learned a few things by flipping through it!

I had heard about the book listening to Jane Fonda talk about this book and that it could possibly help teenagers understand about being a teen and there bodies. I thought it might help my teenage granddaughter to understand a little bit more about herself. I got it in good condition and it did not take long to get it. Now all I can hope is she will read it.

Got this at the library first to see if it was worth it. I found it very informative and factual, not filled with opinions. I bought this for both my teens and plan to again when my youngest turns 13.

I gave this to my duaghter for her teenagers but she was too embarrased to let them see it. Real detailed.

Good book for teen aged girls (especialy) but also good for teenaged boys, about physical and hormonal changes in the body and how to deal with them, and problems if teenages, tastefully and sensitively handled by Ms. Fonda. I would recommend it to the mother of any teenaged child to read.

Break-ups SUCK!!!! How can a guy that you are not so sure about at the very beginning of the relationship cause so much heartache at the end? Holy moly – I would do anything to make this pain go away.I thought I was dating “the one”. Promises were made, he gave me a ring, we were in love (or so I thought!). Then, without warning, he needed a “break” (read “break-up”, I am sure he was just trying to make it sound better). What on earth had I done? There were no warning signs. He went from lovey-dovey to “I can’t talk to you anymore” within a few hours.What now??? I felt like a piece of me had been torn off. I went through the motions of life, but I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t concentrate. Nothing seemed the same. And I was shocked that others could continue on with life – couldn’t they see how much life had changed (at least for me)? This guy & the break-up was all I could think about.Then along comes this book. It was a gift from a friend. I crawled into bed and read it in just one sitting (although I wasn’t really sitting, I was curled into a ball). It was like salve on an open wound. I laughed, I cried, I read and re-read. This book was about me and for me. It was like a good friend who knew exactly what to say. It became my break-up bible.Each chapter had helpful tips to move on. I realized right away that I was living in a “boyfriend torture chamber” and I had to remove all memories of him. I had to get rid of his old texts and stop re-reading them. I had to take his pictures off of my phone. I had to stop stalking his social media to find out if he moved on (accept the fact he is dating Heidi Klum and MOVE-ON! LOL!).And although I did not see any warning signs, as the book said, he must have left the relationship much earlier. I thought about relationships I had ended. I realized I usually was “over them” a few weeks before I finally broke it off. And when I finally “did the deed”, I felt more relief than anything else. And after the relationship was over, I really did not want to talk to the guy again. That helped me look at this relationship in the same way.Once I had some time under my belt (the first few weeks SUCKED), I was able to see the relationship for what it was. Not so great after all… like shoes I was convincing myself felt good, but after I got them off and the blisters healed, I realized how much hurt they caused. Like the book said, I was looking at the relationship through rose-colored glasses. Take the glasses off – oh my! The relationship really wasn’t that awesome.I did take the book’s advice and instead of moping around the house, I spent extra time at the gym, I reorganized my closets, I found time and a place to meditate (it was better than “Netflix and chill” with the ex-guy), and looked into graduate school. At first, I was just going through the motions, but after a few weeks, a new “rockin’” me was emerging. Yay me!!In addition to this book, I got “Ignore the Guy, Get the Guy, The Art of No Contact” (I highly recommend that book, too). Now, this ex-boyfriend has come sniffing around again. I am not sure I want him back. But, with these 2 books’ help, I feel in control of my emotions. I will not be an option. I will not be a booty call. I will not be a psycho ex-girlfriend. I want to be remembered as “the one that got away”.I highly recommend this book. I plan to have a few copies on hand to give to girlfriends after a break-up. I am a Superfox and you are a Superfox too!!!

This book tends to have a heterosexual bent, with a focus on women in breakups from men. That being said- I have bought this book about four times for different friends, with different sexual orientations and genders. It really is a solid wake up call. Some of the gendered issues can be taken with a grain of salt, because the underlying advice is solid. This book saved me from a pretty terrible breakup and I would highly recommend it to those struggling to find a way out of the drama.

I am now able to focus on me, myself, and I and I have never been happier to say that.

I felt like they were giving us their complete selves when describing their heartache and mindset, and I totally appreciated that. They really want you to understand that they get it. They get that this is very difficult-- that you don't understand why this is happening to you, you were blindsided, he acted like everything was OK, why did he act like everything was OK, could I have changed anything, can I win him back..? Etc, etc.We all have those questions rolling around in our heads that drive us bonkers.This book does not take away from the actual pain that we feel after learning we no longer have that one person we cherish so much.SO!They detail some encouraging and practical advice on how to work on ourselves while going through the pain. No one is telling you harshly to get over it...but reminding you that you'll get through it!You'll also get additional stories from other readers that will remind you that the experience could have been worse..LOLI laughed a few times while reading, and I felt refreshed and motivated once I'd completed this book.It's still hard, but it's nice to know I can read words of encouragement when I'm feeling blue.Let us smile!:)

My husband and I are traveling to the Tetons for the first time later this month and wanted to read something about the area. We highly recommend this book for its broad scope and fascinating details. The writing is excellent providing a wealth of information about the area as well as colorful details about the "characters" who have lived there.

This is the book for the best and most concise and interesting "guide" history of Jackson's Hole. I have been an interpretive guide in Jackson's Hole for 10 years and I use the stories in this book to help folks understand the story of the area.

Pretty solid book on the history of Jackson Hole...very in-depth.

Great read! Introduces amazing characters!

You could tell it was written by an outsider

This is a well-written history of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, from its geography to the concerns its residents have today about unlimited growth. Robert Betts writes about the earliest explorers, the coming of the fur trappers, early settlers, homesteaders, the development of the dude ranch, and the bitter debates that eventually led to the formation of Teton National Park. More detailed chapters include fascinating accounts of John Colter, perhaps the first white man to view the Tetons; thumbnail sketches of some of the more famous mountainmen criss-crossing Jackson Hole before the Civil War; some local legends involving the likes of Nick Wilson and Beaver Dick; the disastrous and foolish Doane expedition along the Snake River in the winter of 1876; the summer (1883) President Chester A. Arthur visited the area with members of his cabinet to hunt and fish; the problems the sheepmen faced when they came to the valley; and the recent settlers who display the rugged individualism of their ancestors. Though relating the history of the Jackson Hole area, Betts is just as concerned with presenting a captivating and entertaining narrative, which he succeeds in doing marvelously. Many illustrations grace the text. Anyone with any interest in the Jackson Hole area will find this book worth reading.

I am a tour guide in the Teton area and this book is a must have for people interested in the area. It gives great first hand accounts of the original pioneers that settled in the Tetons.
