Rosenfelt has done another incredible job here. For those already familiar with the life and times of criminal defence attorney Andy Carpenter this is another serving at the table of that five-star meal. While this is book 18 in the series it is written to stand alone (and leave you hungry for more) if you are sitting down to this feast for the first time. When you add lawyers, puppies, and outstanding sarcasm to a meal of murder and mayhem you get some amazing results: Tasty and rare but very well done.

This is the best Andy Carpenter book yet. You could read this as a stand-alone and love it. This book grabs your interest and keeps it through to the very end. Once again Rosenfelt brings an issue to the forefront, that of homeless veterans and their struggles. He weaves it into the story masterfully. The book is very good and if you're an Andy Carpenter fan, you'll love it. I think you'll like it even if you've never read any of the other books. I thought "Rescued" was the best yet and "Deck the Hounds" is just as good.

The book was right on track with the world today. So many forgotten vets.are homeless. Mr. Rosenfelt always writes great stories , laced with humor. The Christmas part of the story could have been written by my own husband. He wants our tree to be left up as long as possible. It's always late in January when he gives in and takes it down. He would like it left up all year and decorated for the different holidays. He really is a sweetheart. The story was good and I enjoyed it but I like all his books..

I love Andy Carpenter books. The first person narration by Andy, a reluctant lawyer, is funny and moves fast. Add the cast of familiar characters, including the mysterious and very tough Marcus, Andy's partners in a dog rescue facility, his wanna be PI (a CPA computer wiz), and his own dog and family, and these books are great reads. How Andy solves and wins his cases is almost always good, as well. This particular entry in the series is especially fun and the mystery intriguing.

I have been reading this series since the first book was released years ago, I have to say I have enjoyed every book. Some more than others, but the series is a five star series.There are always laugh out loud moments and I am really enjoying the growing relationship they have with their adopted son.This book could be read as a stand alone if you are not familiar with this series, but don’t miss out. Read them all.

Rosenfeld is the best writer around. All his books are so much fun. The mysteries are complicated and hard to solve. His humor isclever. And I love his love and appreciation for dogs. This book is another winner. I'm always sad when one of them is over.

David Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter series is outstanding. There's usually a murder involved but it's written with humor throughout, and always involves dogs. I'm a cat person, myself, but love the characters in these books who are each unique and interesting. Andy is a lawyer who doesn't want to work, and I find myself laughing through each book. Each time I finish one, I always think the next one can't possibly be as good, but it's always better than the last. This series progresses with each book, so I would advise a new reader to start with the very first one rather than starting in the middle or with the last book.

David Rosenfelt/Andy Carpenter simply does not disappoint! These books have so much going for them: the law and how it works; a reluctant but excellent lawyer; great family images; a wacky bunch of characters; a genuine mystery which must be solved to save Andy's client/s; and dogs, dogs, dogs. It may be that Rosenfelt and I are on the same humor wavelength, but he manages to get me to laugh - or at least to chuckle - on every page. What could be a better Christmas present than that?

About the Author

Dave Knifton started his working life as an Aeronautical Engineer working in Spin Prevention for a Military Aircraft manufacturer. He then retrained to teach Physics in State Schools. After a number of years as Heads of Physics and Computing, he joined the newly formed Oracle UK. A few years later, he transferred to Oracle Australia to set up and run Oracle Education and then worked as a Principal Oracle Consultant for them. Leaving Oracle, he created and managed firstly an IT Consultancy in Sydney, and then three years later, a sister Consultancy in London. Dave has delivered consultancy across the globe and started various commercial Web ventures. He has also created two centres of Oracle excellence for clients in the UK and Eire. To fulfil a lifelong ambition, in early 2003, he converted a derelict pub in London into a café and managed this, before selling it at the end of the year. Over the years, both for Oracle, its education partners and through dozens of workshops organised through his own Consultancies, he has delivered education covering Business Analysis, Data Modelling and Relational System Design to thousands of students. He has authored two series of books on Data Architecture Fundamentals and Oracle Development Fundamentals. He currently works as a Consultant Enterprise Data Architect and lectures for Verhoef Training in the UK.

Only just came across this book! I have to confess I have been a data modeler previously, but never had a formal training in it. This book has helped me to get to grips with how to do it properly. It has given an insight into the smart ways to think and also a lot of detail around the processes that make it a lot easier. The templates are also very good and the Quality Assurance template is just awesome! I will definitely be using this.

There's something in here for all levels of skill and experience. The Author does a great job presenting key points and covers a large subject area in a concise manner.

A very comprehensive service manual for the S1000 variants. It offers a nice little history of BMW bikes at the beginning, and includes an exhaustive series of repair and maintenance procedures. It lists tools required, and with plenty of pictures demonstrates the steps necessary for each procedure. It even explains the subtle differences for the procedure between the R, RR and XR bikes.This is by far, much more detailed than the BMW factory Repair and Service Data software. It covers just about every conceivable maintenance procedure and repair topic one could imagine. The only drawback is the paper is quite thin and won't hold up to rough handling in the garage,so be careful flipping those pages.All-in-all, adding this to your collection for S1000 bike repair is a no-brainer, and most likely the cheapest thing you will buy for your bike!

A must have for the do it yourselfer! Every task is rated from "easy" to "highly skilled". Not planning on tearing apart my engine though wanted much more info on my RR than owners manual. Looking forward to saving time and money changing fluids, removing wheels for new tire installs and other maintenance. Order right now as the manual comes from England and bike season is fast approaching !

Paper quality poor but I realized this up front, so not really disappointed, just would have preferred paper quality to be better.

A Good Start for Working on S1000XR

As usual with Haynes, very well written and illustrated. I can now do my own maintenance because of this guide. The price from this vender was about the best I've seen. The product came well before the delivery window. I would definitely buy from this vender again.

A re-telling of the court case in a Pennsylvania small town where the school-board was taken over by ultra-Christians with the intention of including Creationism disguised as Intelligent Design in the high school Biology classes to counter "Darwinism." The author is a great grandson of Darwin who, obviously, was very interested and attended the trial and the machinations leading up to it in the town.The trial itself was a melange of expert witnesses on both sides. It was revealed just how deceit was used by those professing belief in ID as actual science. But all science relies on factual experiments, observations and conclusions and ID was found lacking in these science requirements that are needed to justify teaching it in ant science classroom. And so the judge ruled.The flavor of this book comes from the portraits of the townspeople involved in the contest and those who wished it would all go way because the trial had gone national because of the issues involved. Touches of humor spice the narrative from time to time. The book represents theongoing disputes about religion and science and the choice of what is to be taught in public school to our children: the Bible or science.

Film writer and director Matthew Chapman has a few reasons to be interested in the trial of Kitzmiller v. Dover School Board. First, he is a direct descendant of Charles Darwin. Second, he has written before on issues of faith vs. science (Trials of the Monkey). Third, he is the type of writer inherently drawn to exploring characters.This third reason is what seperates this book from the several others profiling the "battle of intelligent design versus science." As other reviewers point out, books like Edward Humes's "Monkey Girl" and Gordy Sack's "Battle Over the Meaning of Everything" may be more journalistic, this book explores the characters. Chapman seems to have a face-to-face with every major (and minor) player on all sides.Beyond this, Chapman himself notes, "One of my chief defects - or better qualities, I'm not sure which - is that I find it almost impossible to maintain animosity toward people with whom I violently disagree once I get to know them." (loc. 490, Kindle edition) No matter how judgmental and acerbic Chapman can be - and he is both, strongly pro-evolution - Chapman paints all characters in as fair a light as possible. (One of the best parts comes later in the book, where Chapman reveals the very human side of Bill Buckingham, the perjurer and hot-headed leader of the Dover School Board that started the whole mess. You almost - ALMOST - empathize with the guy!)If Chapman's book explores the more human Dover, it doesn't make for anywhere near the gripping blow-by-blow account of Edward Humes' or Gordy Sacks' books. Whereas those are very matter of fact and linear, this book jumps from spot to spot, intertwining scenes from the trial with scenes from the school-board meetings to philosophic rumination. The other two books are more snappy and journalistic in tone, whereas this one (for good or bad) is warmer in tone, which doesn't make for a page turner.In the end, Chapman's book on a well-trodden subject DOES manage to set itself apart form the others by focusing on the characters more than the others. With Humes,' and Sacks' book (I have yet to read Lebo's), I feel like I understood the trial quite well. With this book, I feel like I understand Dover quite well.

I became fascinated with the Kitzmiller vs. Dover trial nearly three years after Judge Jones issued his ruling. From a number of Internet sites, I read a great deal about the trial including many pages of testimony and 35 to 40 pages of the 139-page ruling in favor of the plaintiffs.But much of that information, while fascinating, lacked the narrative quality that a screenwriter like Chapman could bring to the story. I decided to buy this book along with Gordy Slack's "The Battle Over the Meaning of Everything" to fill in some gaps in my knowledge and to try and understand the roles played by the Thomas More Law Center, the Discovery Institute, and the members of the Dover Board of Education. I was very happy that I did.Chapman is a decendent of Charles Darwin; a great-great grandson, in fact. He is also a screenwriter and his method of telling a story borrows the flashback idea from the movies. Occasionally, he'll pull some piece of information about a past event and bring it into current time in a manner that can be entertaining but, at times, annoying.His writing skill is first-rate and he has the flair of a novelist. For example, he writes "If the plaintiffs' legal team was a well-oiled collegial machine, the defense was a dysfunctional family with a frequently absent father". You don't get the sense that you are reading an account from a daily newspaper with a quip like that.However, I sometimes felt that if I had not made myself aware of a good deal of the background information concerning this case prior to reading his book, that I might feel, if not lost, that at least I was missing something. For that reason and for the disorienting flashback technique, I gave the book a 4-star rating - his storytelling ability would be worth 5-stars in my opinion.I enjoyed this book a little bit more than Gordy Slack's, though they cannot be directly compared as they approach the subject in quite different ways. Slack sounds, at times, like a guy writing for the Huffington Post, rather than a former editor of a natural history magazine. I say that with affection. His chapter on "Assembling Goliath", the pooling of elite resources by the plaintiffs' team, made me feel like I was watching Eisenhower discuss the invasion plans with his staff. Chapman, however, went to the current event and filled in whatever background info he chose to as the narrative of the trial moved along.Read in tandem, the two books give you a good sense of the trial, the outcome, the implications for years to come. Each is a very well-told tale.

About the Author

Thomas W. Miller is faculty director of the Predictive Analytics program at Northwestern University. He has designed courses for the program, including Marketing Analytics, Advanced Modeling Techniques, Data Visualization, Web and Network Data Science, and the capstone course. He has taught extensively in the program and works with more than forty other faculty members in delivering training in predictive analytics and data science. Miller is owner of Research Publishers LLC and its ToutBay Division, a publisher and distributor of data science applications. He has consulted widely in the areas of retail site selection, product positioning, segmentation, and pricing in competitive markets and has worked with predictive models for more than 30 years. Miller’s books include Web and Network Data Science, Modeling Techniques in Predictive Analytics, Data and Text Mining: A Business Applications Approach, Research and Information Services: An Integrated Approach for Business, and a book about predictive modeling in sports, Without a Tout: How to Pick a Winning Team. The organization of the book is confusing. You can't use the table of contents to decide what to read. After reading the first 4 chapters, I'm extremely disappointed.

Very good book, well written, and the best pas, as with all of Miller's books that I have purchased, is that it comes with real code examples in both Python and R. Great way to get up and running.

good book, but....no data sets to work with. Seems critical for a source code heavy book (ie almost every chapter has pages of code). We would prefer not to scan, then try to run the code ourselves. Read the appendix first at that seems to be where the theory is then go back to the chapters for practical work. Borrowed this book from the library....its really expensive otherwiseupdate: OK --kept reading, and paying overdue fines at the library, so I bought the book. Really worth the read if you're serious about focusing on marketing data science. Great starting read for technical marketers who want to do something in this field.Glad the code samples are now available. Will have to test and see. One thing I noticed about the content. Every time something got interesting Prof. Miller would quote a reference for further reading (ie. details). That's sort of OK, but leaves me wanting and having to go dig elsewhere. Suggestion: one more paragraph for such situations would put my curiosity at rest. A lot of content around product development, positioning, recommending, but a little light on broader examples - It might be helpful to describe a broader range of techniques (ie. list them), then drill down on one or two. It just seems too narrow, like drinking from a straw when really a funnel is needed with the huge alternatives. Enjoyed the book (looks like a text book but reads like a novel - that's a good thing)

Good book, very well explained examples (the R and the Python codes are very well written) but if you have read other books from Prof. Miller, you would be able to remember some exacts paragraphs across some books.

Now that the data is available I will go through this book and do a proper review. But in general I do not like this book as much as this one R for Marketing Research and Analytics (Use R!)

This is a difficult book to review, and I struggled with it a bit. On one hand, it is well written with good use of hypothetical and relevant examples (.e.g Amazon, AT&T). A cantrip that forces a con save or deals 1d8 (none on a successful save) damage can also be used to give an unconscious creature advantage on it's next death save, like a zap with a defibrillator. No need to shocking hands your buddies and hope the DM is feeling lenient any longer chums!Don't even get me started on the gorgeous, provocative artwork in here.This whole book is a work of love, and it shows on every page. The cover and bindings are W0tC quality, and it looks perfectly natural right next to my copy of Xanathar's on the shelf. I can't wait to play a Forbidden Graveyard warlock in my groups' upcoming campaign.

The amount of thought, imagination, inspiration, and sheer "rule of cool" that went into making this work of art is astounding.The hardcover book is no disappointment. It is well put together and organized and the artwork is as thematic and engaging as ever. I have personally played a warlock of the Compendium myself (specifically a Pact of the Blade Warlock for the Stormlord) and had immense fun with it.I absolutely cannot wait to see what else is in store from the author. Nothing I have read in my many hundreds of hours pouring through homebrew have sent my imagination running more than this Compendium.Keep up the good work!!!

This is a fun book to read to your children before bed. The animals at the zoo are all getting ready for bed and putting on their pajamas. The book also teaches the abcs with an animals for each letter of the alphabet. For preschool to kindergarten. I know my grandsons will enjoy it.

The illustrations in this book are really really lovely. The text is a little cumbersome, but the illustrations make up for it!

I find this very disturbing. I do not understand why the second story was included in the book. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this.

Frank was just as crazy as I thought he would be. I loved the backstory on how he and Mayhem became friends. When Alex described Frank probably grabbing her ankle when she got up during the night had me laughing out loud. I think I'm more interested in Kade, though. He and Rubee were so cute. Ready for part two. I know there will be tons to unfold with this group of characters and I can't wait. Great job as always, B.

Whew talk about a book that actually had me on the edge of my seat .I hope Taiwan can get home safely. Alex and Bash get casket ready. I love me some Frank .Bianca pen game is explosive can't wait for the next installment

I loved the storyline. I love the connection of the characters. The cliffhanger left me wondering and pissed off that I have to wait to see what happens next. Bianca never disappoints and she kept us updated on the Bailey family.

I need part 2 NOWWW!!! I love Kade and Rubee I hope the get together forget Bash. I need Frank to hook up with Tai and all will be good

Tai Tai seems to be suck but I feel like Frank is going to come to her rescue. Alexa and Bash is playing a dangerous game. Kade damn him and Rubee seems like they would be so perfect together but who knows.

I cannot even put into words a proper review. SNS! This book took me through so much that I wasn't expecting! Like really???! Such an unexpected read!

Something about Frank is still so appealing, even after getting more of his backstory. I hope that merry trip of bandits are dealt with for trying to come up the wrong way. The author delivered another well and developed story.

I knew Frank had a lot going on from the series on Malice and Mayhem but who knew he had all this going on? I knew there was something about Alex that I didn’t like and I was right. Can’t wait to see how this story ends.
